MISSIONARY STORY, AMY CARMICHAEL

Date: 31.03.2021

Topic: MISSIONARY STORY- AMY CARMICHAEL
Biblical Text: “ Therefore my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labour is not in vain in the Lord”. [1 Corinthians 15:58]

Amy Beatrice Carmichael was born on December 16, 1867 in the village on the northern coast of Ireland. Young Carmichael was a precocious child who spent her days exploring. Amy’s hunger for adventure repeatedly got her into trouble. God placed clear spiritual guideposts in Amy Carmichael’s life to lead her on the road to India. Amy gave her life to Christ when she was sixteen years old. She attended series of Christian meeting that made her grow spiritually. On a snowy night, January 13, 1892, twenty four year old Amy spent the evening in her room in prayers reflecting on the lost and dying millions throughout the world. As clearly as if she heard her mother’s voice, she heard the words, ‘Go ye’ in her heart. Everything around her seemed to be repeating, ‘Go ye’. In God’s providence, she received a letter from a friend in Bangalore, India writing her to join the Church of England mission there. Amy was delighted. She accepted the offer. Amy was a selfless missionary who dedicated her life to loving the unloved children of southern India; transforming thousands of India lives in more than fifty five years of service. Amy saw the Christian life as a chance to die to oneself, so that Christ might be revealed. Amy often declared about her hardworking toil among the people of India, ‘I would rather burn out than rust out!’ At the time of Amy’s death, over half a million of her books had been printed in English. Several titles had been translated into 15 different languages and twelve had been printed in Braille. Amy made impact for Christ; receive grace to impact your generation too!

KNOW IT ∞ To make impact for Jesus, we must devote our heart and soul to serving Jesus Christ.
READ IT ∞ Psalm 143:8-10
PRAY IT ∞ Father, I receive grace for my heart and soul to be completely devoted to you.

THUS SAITH THE LORD

Date: 30.03.2021

Topic: THUS SAITH THE LORD
Biblical Text: “ So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing where I sent it”. [Isaiah 55:11]

God told Prophet Elijah to arise and go to Zarephath, God said, ‘Behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain you in the famine’. Elijah might have thought she is a wealthy widow; he arose excitedly and went to Zarephath. On getting there, he realized that the widow was in a more precarious situation than he was. There was famine in the land where she was; she was gathering sticks to eat her last meal with her son, and die from the famine afterwards. But Elijah told her to go and make the little cake left for him. He told the woman, ‘thus saith the Lord God of Israel, the barrel of meal shall not waste neither shall the cruise of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth. The event played out according to the Word of the Lord. ‘Thus saith the Lord’ is an affirmative statement from the Lord, except He alters it; it will remain unaltered until it becomes accomplished as the Lord has said it. It is the Lord that says a word, forms it and establishes it. The Bible contains 1,189 chapters, 31,102 verses and 80,736 words of the Lord all formed and established. You must discover what God says concerning you in His Word, meditate on it and take it seriously;it will surely come to pass in your life.

KNOW IT ∞ Every Word of the Lord is formed and established; take it seriously.
READ IT ∞ Isaiah 7:7, 1 Kings 17:14-16, Jeremiah 33:2-3
PRAY IT ∞ Father, I reverence you because none of your Word goes unaccomplished.

HOUSEHOLD CHORES

Date: 29.03.2021
Topic: HOUSEHOLD CHORES
Biblical Text: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”. [Proverbs 22:6]
Growing up, I had an uncle that stayed in our house. He used to complain that he does virtually all the work in the house. Sometimes, he would say my father was not caring enough; why should he be made to work so hard? After a while, he travelled to Lagos, Nigeria to start a business. After about a year in Lagos, Nigeria, he came back to check on us briefly. Then he opened up to tell my father that all he learned in our house had been very useful to him in his new environment. He thanked my father for the trainings that made him become a man. There are some parents that do not allow their children to do any house hold chores at home since they have house help. Some brag among their friends about the laziness of their children who do not engage in any domestic chores. I met a man-a servant who told me that in the house he was working; he must be on stand by and cook for the children anytime they are hungry. One of them was an 18 year old girl who did not know how to prepare anything….even noodles. To allow your children to do household chores is training them to be responsible adults and parents in the future. Household chores teach your children to become loving and responsible adults. It teaches them team work, respect, life skills and even effective planning. Parents are not to pamper their children; they must let them do household chores. Beloved, household chores helps you to grow up physically and mentally to be responsible and loving adults in the future.

KNOW IT ∞ Household chores mentally prepare you for the future. It helps you to be responsible and loving adults in the future.
READ IT ∞ Ecclesiastes 3:22, Philippians 2:14-15
PRAY IT ∞ Father, by your grace, I will develop to a responsible and loving adult as I do my household chores.

SIBLING RIVALRY

Date: 28.03.2021

Topic: SIBLING RIVALRY
Biblical Text: “ And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him and could not speak peaceably unto him’. And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more”. [Genesis 37:4-5]

Sibling rivalry can be attributed to a lot of factors. In some homes, the parents show special love and attention to a child at the expense of the others. This can cause siblings rivalry. Israel showed he loved Joseph more than the other siblings and because of that they hated him and even plotted to kill him. As parents, we must not show that we love one child more than others; it breeds rivalry. This is also the case of father loving one child and the mother loving the other child, as in the case of Esau and Jacob. Sibling’s rivalry can also arise when parents constantly appreciate one child for his talents and underappreciate the other children. Every child is special and deserves appreciation. As parents, we must desist from doing this. Cain killed Abel because he saw him as a rival. As parents we must love our children equally. You must use the same yardstick of correction and appreciation to all your children. There must be no favoritism. Every child is gifted, unique and special in their own way. Beloved, we are not to compete with our siblings, rather we are to understand our uniqueness and complement one another.

KNOW IT ∞ Parents must love all their children equally; there must be no favoritism.
READ IT ∞ Genesis 4:8, 27:41, 25:26
PRAY IT ∞ Father, I receive grace to love all my siblings/children equally

REARING UP A FAMILY ALTAR

Date: 27.03.2021

Topic: REARING UP A FAMILY ALTAR
Biblical Text: “ And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house and when thou walkest by the way and when thou liest down and when thou risest up”. [Deuteronomy 6:7]

Family altar simply means family Bible study, prayers and worship time. Every Christian family should have such a time daily. It amazes me to see that so many Christian families find it difficult to set time apart daily as a family to commune with God, they sometimes try to give attention to their Church altar and hope it can effectively take the place of family altar. Sorry, it cannot! Fellowshipping in Church is good but equally important is family altar. Family altar is a platform for parents to diligently teach their children in their houses so that they do not depart from the way of understanding. I struggled as a teen spiritually because we did not imbibe the culture of family altar in our home. Family altar helps build our spiritual lives in prayers, word and worship. Also, family altar helps builds unity in the home. You would have heard, ‘ a family that prays together, stays together’ . Also, family problems are solved in the family altars. In family altar, we can spend time to intercede for others like pastors, missionaries, sick people, saints, new converts and unsaved souls. Every parent has a ministry which is partly done on the family altar. Rear up a family altar today; if it needs repair quickly do it and enjoy family fellowship in the presence of the most High God.

KNOW IT ∞ Family altar is important in every Christian home.
READ IT ∞ Deuteronomy 6:4-7, 1 Kings 18:30, 2 Samuel 24:18
PRAY IT ∞ Father, give my family the grace to raise up a family altar for your glory.

DO NOT PATTERN YOUR LIFE AFTER THEM PART 3

Date: 26.03.2021

Topic: DO NOT PATTERN YOUR LIFE AFTER THEM Part 3
Biblical Text: “ And he went up from thence unto Bethel and he was going up by the way, then came forth little children out of the city and mocked him and said unto him, go up thou bald head; go up, thou bald head”. [2 Kings 2:23]

Not long after Elisha, the protégé of prophet Elijah witnessed how Elijah was translated by the whirlwind into heaven, from Jericho, he was heading to Bethel situated in the hill. Probably, he was going to the sons of the prophets to comfort and encourage them of the loss of Elijah. As he was ascending the city, there came forth little children (John Gill’s strong concordance disclosed that the age of the ‘children’ will be around 30-40 years of age) came out of the city to mock prophet Elisha. They tried to intimidate the prophet by calling him a bald head. They flouted and jeered him to go up to heaven after Elijah. They mocked the wondrous work of the Lord. They behaved like little children in their thinking. Elisha turned back and looked at them expecting them to stop hurling insults at him; yet they repeated the mockeries; then he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Immediately, two she bears came forth out of the wood and tore 42 of them. This is an awful punishment for their wickedness which they knowingly and willingly committed and of their parents who did not train them well. These men were not afraid to abuse and castigate a man of God and they paid dearly for it. Do not join believers who feel that they are in the position to reprove, intimidate, abuse and castigate a man of God; do not see yourself as a vocal person whose mouth has no bridle. God does not take it lightly when you speak against his anointed loosely. Be careful.

KNOW IT ∞ Do not think you are in a position to reprove a man of God. Let God be the Judge.
READ IT ∞ 2 Kings 2:23-24
PRAY IT ∞ Father, give me the wisdom never to speak against Your servants

ZERO TO HERO PART 3

Date: 25.03.2021

Topic: ZERO TO HERO PART 3
Biblical Text: “ And the king loved Esther above all the woman and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins so that he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti”. [Esther 2:17]

King Ahasuerus hosted a feast and invited queen Vashti to come and show the princes and the people her beauty but she refused to come out at the king’s commandment. The king was displeased; he consulted with his advisers and concluded that queen Vashti should be banished from the palace and her royal estate should be given to another. The search began for who will replace queen Vashti. Young virgins were carefully selected amongst which the next royal queen in Shushan would be chosen. Among the fair virgins selected was Esther. She was an orphan; with no father and mother; she lived with her uncle in exile. But Esther was a humble and God-fearing fair virgin. The virgins were given twelve months to take care of themselves after which they will be brought to the king. The turn of Esther came to meet the king; the Lord gave her grace and favour in the presence of the king over all the other virgins. The king set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. The king then honored Esther with a great feast. For God to lift us from a zero to a hero, we must be humble and God fearing; just like Esther. Also, the king did not want any lady, he wanted a virgin; it is also important we keep our chastity for God to take us from a zero to a hero.

KNOW IT ∞ We must be humble and God fearing for God to take us from a zero to a hero.
READ IT ∞ Esther 2:1-20
PRAY IT ∞ Father, put in me the Spirit of humility and your fear so that I can be exalted.

THE ULTIMATE INSTRUCTOR

Date: 24.03.2021

Topic: THE ULTIMATE INSTRUCTOR
Biblical Text: “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye”. [Psalm 32:8]

Instruction is telling (someone) what they must do or should do. I was watching a 100 meter track and field event some years back. According to the build up to the final, the runner in a particular lane had the best chance of winning. Normally, the commencement of any race is marked by the sound of a gunshot. This particular runner jumped the gun on two occasions; he was warned that he will be disqualified the third time he jumped the gun. He was anxious. Unfortunately, he jumped the gun again the third time, he was disqualified from the race for not following instruction. He missed a golden opportunity to win the race. It takes someone who is ready to follow the instruction of the most High God to make progress and win in life. Without God’s instruction, Abraham would have died unfulfilled in his father’s house. The ultimate instructor made him a father of many nations. Apostle Peter was instructed by God to follow three men that sought him; he moved according to the instruction of God, that action marked the beginning of the baptism of fire among the Gentiles which started in the house of Brother Cornelius. Let God instruct and teach you in the way that you should go and your expectation shall not be cut off. We must not refuse instruction. Those qualified to instruct you are God [the ultimate instructor]; your parents, your spiritual fathers and spiritual wise counsellors. However, God is the ultimate instructor; all other instruction must bow to His instruction for your life. Incline your ear to His instruction and you shall live.

KNOW IT ∞ God is the ultimate instructor, follow his instruction.
READ IT ∞ Proverbs 8:33, 13:18, Isaiah 55:3
PRAY IT ∞ Father, I submit myself fully to your instruction, teach and guide me O Lord.

AGAPE LOVE

Date: 23.03.2021

Topic: AGAPE LOVE
Biblical Text: “ Charity suffereth long and is kind, charity envieth not, charity vauneth not itself, is not puffed up”. [1 Corinthians 13:4]

There are four basic types of love; eros based on romantic love; storge based on familiarity or affection; philia based on friendship love and agape love based on God kind of love. Agape love can be defined as charity which represents God’s love to man, man’s love to God or man’s love to his fellow-men. Agape love is unconcerned with self and concerned with the greatest good of another. It is not borne just out of emotions, feelings, familiarity or attraction but from the will and as a choice. Agape requires faithfulness, commitment and sacrifices without expecting anything in return. It is the highest form of love. Agape love is love that comes from God. While we are yet sinners, Christ shewed his Agape love by dying for us. Agape love is an unconditional love, it is without sentiment. God expects us to love Him and others with agape love. The greatest commandments instruct us to ‘Agapao’ God and our neighbors. We cannot love our friends unconditionally and be unconcerned about their salvation. You claim to love your neighbors but while you are coasting to heaven, they are coasting to hell and you do not care; this cannot be love. When you see loved ones on the road to hell, do you weep and cry to God to change them? Because of the ‘agapao’ love you have for them. When you love God with ‘agapao’ love, you can spend hours in His presence and feel no boredom. You do not feel bored in the presence of someone you genuinely love. Let us love unconditionally with no ‘strings attached’.

KNOW IT ∞ The God kind of love is agape love.
READ IT ∞ John 15:13, 13:35, 1 John 4:8
PRAY IT ∞ Father, give me the grace to obey the greatest commandments by loving unconditionally.

HE IS ALIVE

Date: 22.03.2021

Topic: HE IS ALIVE
Biblical Text: “ Yet a little while and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me because I live, ye shall live also ”. [John 14:19]

Jesus is alive! He is alive! O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The greatest event that defined our existence as a Christian is the death and resurrection of Jesus. Ordinarily, we were supposed to suffer and to die but Jesus took our place. He paid the ultimate price for our sins by his death on the cross. Apostle Paul said, ‘If after the manner of men, I have fought with beast at Ephesus, what advantageth it me; if the dead rise not? Let us eat and drink for tomorrow we die’[1 Corinthians 15:32].Thanks be to Jesus! Because He is alive, we know we have access to everlasting life! The hope of a true believer is that they never taste of death; just like Jesus did! A true believer of Christ does not die like ordinary men, they live forever. That is the promise Jesus made to us. Jesus had the power to lay down his life and to take it up again in order to blot out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, nailing it to the cross thereby giving us victory over death and the grave [Colossians 2:14]. Praise God! Beloved, our faith is not in vain, JESUS is alive. Through the resurrection of Jesus we have been begotten to a lively hope, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled; that fadeth not. Rejoice, Jesus is alive!

KNOW IT ∞ Because Jesus is alive, I cannot fear death or the grave.
