When Cynthia decided to click acceptance button of a friend request sent to her; little did she know that it would take her to the grave. She started chatting with her new male friend; a relationship ensued. She was invited to visit him in Port Harcourt. She physically met the friend she had been communicating with all this while on the internet. She did not know the man had other wicked ideas up his sleeve. He took her to the hotel, raped her and killed her! A click on the internet took Cynthia to an early grave. Today’s youth are inquisitive and adventurous. They want to attempt what has not been done before and boast of the outcome to their friends. Sometimes when surfing the internet, a site can pop up on the screen with the picture of a lady with the question, ‘lets be friend, and chat me up’. You need to immediately close such message and picture. A click on that message will probably take you closer to hell than to heaven. A lot of youths have been enticed into homosexuality, pornography, masturbation and prostitution by clicking sites on the internet that they are inquisitive about. Do not let your inquisitiveness take you to hell. Not all the stuffs posted on the internet are good for the spiritual; some of them are orchestrated from the pit of hell. Note that on the internet, you are one click away from sin, spiritual redundancy and destruction; be on guard. Before you click any site on the internet, be certain, it will glorify God and that it will help you grow spiritually, mentally and socially. Use the internet as a godly tool to make a positive impact.

Biblical Text: ” So teach us how to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. ” [Psalm 90:12]

There was a spot in my neighborhood where they sell Newspaper. In the morning, a lot of people will gather there to read Newspaper. They will begin to argue and debate about the current happenings. At about noon when they usually get tired, they will go back home and return again the next morning. What a way to spend their precious time. A wise man once said, The only thing that one loses that can never be recovered is time! Money can be recovered; materials can be recovered but time once lost is lost forever. God gives everyone of us equal time every day. He credits your account daily with 86,400 precious seconds that you can use to do great things. Whether you waste it or use it judiciously; at the end of the day, it is wiped off; you never get that day again, ever! David scheduled a time to pray three times daily [Psalm 55:17]and to praise God seven times daily [Psalm 119:164]. How wisely he invested his time! He was a king but never too busy to spend his time for God by allocating a good chunk to Him. Do you know that the same times Moses spent in fellowshipping with God, was the same time the Israelite were using to crave for an idol. How do you spend your time? God gave us the gift of time to make a difference in our lives and that of others. Spend your time wisely on the things that build you up spiritually, physically, emotionally and socially. Become a better person that God can use. To master the art of using your time wisely, do a list of how you want to spend your day focusing on the activities that make you a better person.

URGE TO BE RECOGNIZED AND ACCEPTED

Biblical Text: ‘ And he said, who made thee a prince and a judge over us? Intendest thou to kill me, as thou killest the Egyptians? And Moses feared and said, surely, this thing is known’. [Deuteronomy 2:14]

The urge to be recognized and accepted by friends and society has led people to go to extraordinary lengths including joining a fraternity, committing crimes among others. It is strange what a young man or woman can do just to be a friend of someone that they like. They will do everything possible to be recognized and accepted by them. King Saul was displeased when he was not duly recognized as the ‘supremo’ after the war. Rather, a little boy was getting all the accolades and getting more recognition than him. They were even chanting the little boy’s name that he had killed more people than him. He was jealous; he felt David was taking the shine off him; He wanted to be recognized, hence he sought to kill him. Another example is the case of Moses; Moses desperately wanted the people of Israel to recognize that he will help them in their liberation from the hands of the Egyptians. He wanted them to know that he loves them and that he will do everything possible to save them. He thought he had an opportunity to prove it by killing the Egyptian fighting with the Israelite. He was wrong, they rejected him! He had to flee to escape being killed by Pharaoh. Jesus made himself of no reputation and took upon Him the form of a servant; He knew that recognition comes only from God. As children of God, understand that recognition and acceptance comes only from God. Beloved, you need to make yourself of no reputation before men. When Moses was recognized by God, he became recognized by the same people that rejected him. You do not need to be recognized or accepted by your peers to feel important. Jeremiah preached a message for 40 years, yet he was not recognized or accepted by the people of Israel; but God recognized him, accepted him and valued him. Brethren, you only need God’s recognition and acceptance; man’s recognition and acceptance is irrelevant!

Biblical Text: ‘ But he forsook the counsel of old men which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him’. [1 Kings 12:8]

When king Solomon slept with his fathers, his son-Rehoboam reigned in his stead. For him to reign over Israel, Jeroboam and all the congregation came to him saying, ‘your father made our yoke grievous; if you can make our yoke lighter we will serve thee’. Rehoboam told them that he will give them an answer in three days. First, he consulted with the old men that stood before Solomon; the old men told him to speak good words to them and that they will serve him forever. Then, he went to meet the young men who grew up with him for counsel; they advised him to tell them that he will make their yoke thicker than that of his father (increased hardship). He took the young men advice and neglected the counsel of the old men. Ultimately, Jeroboam and all the people of Israel rebelled against the house of David. One wrong counsel destroyed the relationship between Judah & Israel and created strife. ‘How many are the relationships and lives that have been destroyed by wrong counsel! There are some decisions to be taken that you need wise counsellors to advice you in order to make the right and best decision. Although, age is not a criteria of who qualifies to be your counsellor; however make sure that the person is a genuine spirit filled believer.

LUSTFUL DESIRES

Biblical Text: ‘ Wherefore, God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts to dishonor their bodies between themselves. ‘ [Romans 1:24]

A lustful desire is a general want or longing not necessarily a sexual want. Sometimes ago, I went to a parastatal in Abuja to have an appointment with a secretary to the minister. On getting to the 4th floor where I will confirm my appointment, I saw a young man engrossed with his mobile phone. He was watching a pornographic content. On sighting me, he quickly hid his phone. Here is an example of someone fulfilling his lustful desires through pornographic content. I never had the chance to share the Gospel with him that day. Regrettably, the next time I went there, it was his obituary picture I saw! Whether he repented before he died, only God knows. Nowadays, people are publicly exhibiting their lustful desires without shame. The society is gradually conforming to their standard.. And God gave them up to uncleanness through the lust of their own hearts [ Romans 1:24 ]. They lust after their idols; they lust after money; men burning in their lust for one another. In times like this, we are advised to flee. We must flee lustful desires. Joseph flee from the lustful desires of Potiphar’s wife. He refused to compromise his righteousness. Also, to overcome the lustful desire of pornography, avoid watching demonic sites on the internet that fuel your lust and cut off from the wrong company that fuel your lustful desires. Determine to follow after righteousness and they that call God with a pure heart.

Biblical Text: ‘ For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of Lords, a great God, a mighty and a terrible which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward ‘. [Deuteronomy 10:21].

Sennacherib, the king of Assyria came up against the defensed cities of Judah, he sent Rabshakek to Jerusalem to speak to King Hezekiah to surrender to Assyria. Rabshakek boasted in the ears of king Hezekiah representatives and the people saying that their God would not deliver them. The people were afraid. When King Hezekiah heard all that was said, he was sad and cried unto the Lord. The Word of the Lord came through prophet Isaiah for Israel saying, They should not be afraid, that God will reveal Himself mightily. And He did! Without King Hezekiah and his army lifting a sword, the Lord sent an angel to the camp of the Assyrians and killed 185,000 people in the camp of the Assyrians. God reveal Himself mightily!
A young man who works in an oil serving company was travelling by boat to Port Harcourt when their boat suddenly capsized. He cried out to God to save him. Suddenly, the drowning young man felt someone grip his hand and prevented him from sinking on the sea. Hours later when rescue operators came, he opened his eyes and saw that what held him for hours was a leaf! No one was there! God revealed Himself mightily to him. There are no impossible cases with God. He will reveal Himself mightily in your situation in Jesus Name.

James Hudson Taylor was born on May 21, 1832. His parents were spirit filled believers. However, James in his teen years was rebellious and bored with the constant reminders of Christian life. He started work in a bank and indulged in a carefree life. It took a sudden illness for him to reluctantly give up his bank position. One day while reading Gospel biography, he had a definite encounter with God; he fell down on his knees and accepted Jesus into his life. In December, 1849, Hudson was communing with God and asking about his purpose in life. Almost as if spoken out loudly, he clearly heard the words, Then go for me to China! Hudson Taylor was now a man set apart and going to China in the name of Jesus Christ. His life was no longer his own. He had a burning desire for China to be saved! In one of his missionary trips to Chinese interiors, they were running short of money, he remarked, The Lord reigns, herein is our joy and confidence. We have 25 cents and all the promises of God. And God miraculously met their need! Hudson will always say, My soul yearns, oh how intensely for the 180 million soul of these unoccupied provinces. Oh that I had a hundred lives to give or spend for their good! Over his life, he recruited and trained over 1,000 men and women for China during his lifetime. Forty five years after his death, the China inland mission he inaugurated remained the largest Gospel endeavor in China. When praised for his work in China, he will say, All Gods giant is a weak man who did great things for God because they reckoned on His being with them.

Once upon a time, a rider came across a few soldiers who were trying to move a heavy log of wood without success. The corporal was standing by, just watching as the men struggled. The rider could not believe it. He finally asked the corporal why he was not helping. The corporal replied, I am the corporal, I give orders. The rider said nothing in response; instead he dismounted from the horse and assisted the soldiers lift the heavy log. He quietly mounted on his horse and went to the corporal and said, the next time your men need help, send for the commander-in-chief! A child from a rich background if given the chance will play with all classes of children whether from rich or poor background. They will not discriminate whether they are white or black; dirty or clean. They do not have a high opinion about themselves. That is humility! A child has low opinion about themselves and that is why God used them to cite an example concerning humility. God warned Nebuchadnezzar to be humble rather he chose to assume the role of a god; thinking it was his power that made him achieve all for Babylon. Immediately, God drove him from men, and he ate grass for seven years. Humility is a character trait exhibited by Jesus. To be like God, you need to be humble. It takes humility to enter the kingdom of heaven. Be humble like a child. Heaven is for humble people.

Biblical Text: ‘ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself ‘. [Daniel 1:8]

Discipline can mean a set of rules and regulation; self-control to prevent abuse. Sunday did not take his studies seriously during his primary and secondary education. He manages to pass and get minimum credit required to be promoted to the next class. Most times, his teachers will write in his report sheet, He is very intelligent but too playful. When he got to the university, he decided to discipline himself and regulate the excesses preventing me from achieving the best in academics. You can guess the result? He came out with a good result in the University. It took Daniel, discipline to refuse to eat of the abundance at the kings table and opt for pulse and water. His discipline paid off. Daniel and his friends that disciplined themselves looked better than all the other people feeding off the kings table. God also gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom that made them ten times better than all the magicians in a foreign land. It takes discipline to pray, to read the Word of God, to evangelize, to carry out priority tasks of each day. Without discipline, success will only be a wish word and not a reality.

Biblical Text: ‘ And they left the house of the Lord God of their fathers and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for their trespass ‘. [2 Chronicles 24:18]

Joash was seven years old when he began to reign and did that which was right in the sight of the Lord , all the days of Jehoiada, the priest. When it was time for him to marry, the priest guided him in his choice. Joash did not like how the house of the Lord was looking. He wanted to repair it; he consulted all relevant stakeholders. Finally, they finished repairing the house of the Lord. Joash loved the things of God. But when Jehoiada the priest died, he left the Lord God of his fathers and began to serve idols. The Lord sent prophets to warn Joash and the people, but they refused. When Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada the priest spoke the Word of the Lord to Joash and the people, they rejected it and stoned him to death. By this action, Joash, forgot all the good things that Jehoiada had done for him, part of which included preserving his life at a tender age. Joash was eventually killed by his own servants. Beloved, it is not enough to begin with God, our ending with God is most important. Also, when we love God genuinely, it will be difficult to value sin more than God. To refuse to heed Gods correction leads to destruction.
